The works on the new spa treatment base in the village of Vizantea Manastireasca, Vizantea Livezi commune (Vrancea County), have been completed, the objective being received by the National Investment Company, in a project that aims to revitalize the resort and expand health and recovery services for the population, the National Investment Company (CNI) announced on Friday.

According to the cited source, the project is intended for people of all ages, who have a medical recommendation for various ailments, and offers modern conditions for spa treatment, recovery and relaxation.

The new construction includes specially designed spaces for medical treatment and recovery, accommodation areas for patients undergoing treatment, as well as outdoor treatment spaces, intended for therapies and procedures based on the use of therapeutic mineral waters, specific to the Vizantea area.

The treatment facility will have an accommodation capacity of about 400 places for treatment and approximately 60 places for accommodation. The project was designed to ensure the development of local businesses around the treatment facility, accommodation spaces and restaurants that will create new jobs, in addition to the 65 already provided for in the project.

The project for the construction of the treatment facility was submitted for financing in 2020, when the value of the works was estimated at about 37 million lei. The investment was carried out by CNI, with financing provided by the Ministry of Development, Public Works and Administration.

The locality of Vizantea Livezi, located in the northwestern area of Vrancea County, is known in the area for its over 30 mineral springs that locals claim have healing powers. The waters became famous starting in 1882, when a tinsmith from Panciu, who suffered from chronic rheumatism, was reportedly cured in just one month after bathing in the mineral waters taken from all the springs in the area.

Following the study of the waters in the area and the positive qualitative analyses, Vizantea was declared a resort in 1886. The resort had its famous period between the two world wars, when approximately 5,000 tourists from all over the country stayed here. Although after the Second World War the spa infrastructure in the area was destroyed, even during the communist period people came here from all over the country and found shelter in the households of the locals in the area, where they also underwent treatment courses.

According to the locals, the water was brought from the springs in large barrels and heated with hot stones in the fireplace. Tradition says that the baths had to be done in an odd number, but no less than nine baths for the treatment to be effective, and the results of the treatments done at Vizantea were the only advertisement made for these waters. The last family that still kept the tradition of these "tub baths" stopped doing these treatments about ten years ago, but the locals never stopped hoping that the tradition in the area could be revived with the redevelopment of the springs and the construction of an adequate treatment facility.

Local authorities believe that the completion of the treatment facility represents an important step for the development of the Vizantea Livezi resort, by diversifying the medical infrastructure and creating the conditions for the relaunch of spa tourism in the area, with a direct impact on the local economy.
