More than 45 performances of George Enescu's works will be presented in Bucharest and throughout Romania during the 27th edition of the George Enescu International Festival, organizers announced in a press release sent to AGERPRES on Thursday.

Audiences will be able to hear Enescu's iconic compositions, ranging from symphonic masterpieces (the Symphonies, Vox Maris, Pastoral-Fantasy, Rhapsodies) to chamber works (Impressions from Childhood, Duo, String Quartets, Cello and Piano Sonatas), as well as early works (Romanian Poem) and posthumously completed creations (Isis, Romanian Caprice).

The centerpiece of this year's festival is the monumental opera Oedipus, staged by the Bucharest National Opera under the direction of Stefano Poda, featuring Ionut Pascu (Oedipus), Ruxandra Donose (Jocasta), and Ramona Zaharia (Sphinx).

"My goal is to create a festival that is unique not only in Romania but globally, offering as many new and innovative experiences as possible for the audience attending the Enescu Festival," said artistic director Cristian Macelaru.

The 27th George Enescu International Festival will be held from 24 August to 21 September 2025, honoring the composer's universal musical legacy with a diverse program that combines tradition and innovation. Under the theme "Celebrations," artistic director Cristian Macelaru will showcase iconic classical works, innovative contemporary pieces, world premieres, and concert adaptations of rare operas, commemorating 70 years since George Enescu's passing. Featuring over 100 concerts and 4,000 invited artists, Bucharest will transform into the world's classical music capital for four weeks.
