The few years of Mihai Eminescu were enough for him to live on through the ages, and the day of his birth to be the same as the National Culture Day, said Minister Lucian Romascanu, in a statement for AGERPRES.

"What would have been if Eminescu had lingered a few years more on earth? It's a question that troubles us when we think of him, of Labis, of Porumbescu, of Magda Isanos and so many others... The general belief is that it would have certainly been better for the Romanian soul. Nonetheless, it seems God's plan for His chosen is not measured in the arithmetic of years, but in their intensity (...). Thus, those few years of the Vesper [e.n. - Eminescu's best known poem - the Vesper - is often used to refer to the poet himself] were enough for the ages to remember, and for the day of his birth to be the same with the National Culture Day," the Culture Minister emphasized.

According to Lucian Romascanu, "culture is (...) the invisible thread holding us together, making us startle the same, here or wherever, at the tolling of bells, at the Romanian verse or the sound of [our] carols."
