The National Trade Union Bloc (BNS) is organising a protest rally on Wednesday in Victoriei Square in Bucharest, against "the decrease in purchasing power and the anti-wage-earner policies promoted by the government," the trade unionists announced in a press release sent to AGERPRES.

Under the slogan "Govern for us too! Not just for you!", the BNS is asking the Romanian Government to take urgent measures to stop the decrease in purchasing power and to improve the lives of workers.

Among the main demands are the halting of government policies that fuel inflation and the protection of workers' incomes. "The liberalisation of energy prices, as well as the increase in VAT, have led to an annual inflation rate of 9.9% so far, higher than the inflation in the crisis year of 2010. From 2022 to August 2025, the price increase was 46.2%," the press release states.

The BNS calls for measures aimed at reducing inflation and at the same time support measures to protect the purchasing power of the population's income.

The BNS representatives also demand an increase in the minimum salary per economy.

"In the conditions in which inflation is persistent in Romania, and the austerity measures already announced for 2026 (tax increases and the re-liberalisation of the price of natural gas after March 31, 2026), will lead to a confirmation of the inflationary government policies, the effect is the amputation of purchasing power primarily for the most vulnerable employees in the economy, those with the minimum gross wage or around the minimum gross wage (over 1.8 million people)," explained the trade unionists.

On the other hand, the BNS requests the application of the legal framework in force and the increase of the minimum gross wage from 4,050 lei to at least 4,325 lei, according to the official calculation formula and the evolution of labour productivity.

Among the demands are also the halting of reforms made through salary and job cuts in the budgetary sector; transparent debates with social partners on reorganisation initiatives; the introduction of clear and transparent criteria for assessing public sector workers.

At the same time, the BNS representatives are requesting a cut in labour taxation and establishing the fight against tax evasion as the Government's top priority.

The trade unionists also want "a broad public investment programme that would efficiently use national and European non-reimbursable financial resources, especially for rail transport infrastructure, local transport, agriculture and the food industry, research, public health and culture".
