The Minister of Culture, Demeter Andras Istvan, declared on Friday, in Timisoara, that the current legislation on heritage must be revised, because there are many administrative obstacles and subjectivism in the evaluation of heritage assets, adding that a new law on culture would also be necessary, to be adopted following consultations with all the partners involved.

He emphasized that artists in the field of visual arts are the least supported, with all costs, from materials to rents, being borne by them, while other fields benefit from various forms of support from the state.

"At the moment, we know that of the many vocational professions in the field of culture, the only ones who are burdened at all are artists in the field of visual arts. From bills to necessities, supplies, raw materials, etc, to rents, everything is on their shoulders, without there being a transversal approach from the state to support this burden. Everyone else, from any other field, from journalists to stage artists, music, any other field benefits more or less from state support, either in an institutionalized form or through various other forms, but visual artists are on their own. I believe that a systemic intervention is needed here and I see the solution in what is called and has been awaited for many years - the law of culture. We are working on it, but you should know that there is a great need for consensus. We have had some debates in the last period. Whenever we have been in situations of making major impact decisions, we have never made them from the office. So, only based on consultations", the culture minister told the press.

Demeter Andras Istvan showed that he was convinced after the consultations held so far that we are still in the same situation for 35 years - "to change everything, anytime, but not to start with me, not to start with us".

He emphasized that in culture there should be no divisive areas, and the chances should be the same for everyone.

Minister Demeter Andras Istvan was present in Timisoara, where he awarded the "Sculpture of the Year 2025" award to the Interart TRIADE Foundation, which has become, today, the JECZA Foundation.

The work that received the jury's vote is called "Together" and belongs to the artist Vlad Nanca.

The award, which bears the name of sculptor Peter Jecza, a founding member of the Triade Foundation, is a tribute to his significant contribution to contemporary Romanian sculpture.
