President Nicusor Dan stressed, at the videoconference meeting of the 'Friends of Competitiveness' group of states, the need and importance of urgent measures to lower energy prices, so as to reduce the pressure on industry and citizens and to relaunch the competitiveness of the European economy.
''This evening, we had an applied dialogue with European leaders within the videoconference meeting of the 'Friends of Competitiveness' group of states. It was a very useful meeting from the perspective of coordinating our positions, in preparation for the European Council of March 19-20. The main topic addressed was energy prices and their impact on the objectives of strengthening European competitiveness and stimulating industry, recently aggravated by the increase in oil and gas prices on the international market, as a result of the Middle East crisis," the head of state wrote on Facebook.
He stressed, at the meeting, the need and importance of urgent measures to lower energy prices.
"I stressed the need and importance of urgent measures to lower energy prices, so as to reduce the pressure on industry and citizens and to relaunch the competitiveness of the European economy, and there was consensus on this issue among the participating leaders. In parallel, we must analyze how we will approach the energy sector in the medium and long term, aiming to capitalize on the role of our own resources and their capitalization in the overall European energy mix,'' Nicusor Dan said.
Certainly, he added, the European Union must strengthen its autonomy in this sector and reduce its dependencies as quickly as possible.
