President Nicusor Dan congratulated on Sunday Ireland's president-elect, mentioning the Romanian community in this country.
"Congratulations to Catherine Connoly on her election as President of Ireland. I am looking forward to working together to develop our bilateral and European cooperation, building upon our countries' excellent relations and the links fostered by the Romanian community in Ireland," the head of state wrote on X.
Independent candidate Catherine Connolly, supported by the left-wing opposition, was declared winner of the presidential election in Ireland, and her only opponent, Heather Humphreys - a member of the center-right Fine Gael party, admitted defeat on Saturday afternoon, AFP reports
