President Nicusor Dan had a conversation on Wednesday with Antonio Costa, President of the European Council, regarding the main topics to be addressed next week within the informal European Council.

"Today I had a substantial conversation with Antonio Costa, President of the European Council, regarding the main topics to be addressed next week within the informal European Council. We are meeting on February 12 to find together solutions to increase the competitiveness of our states - that is, to encourage investment, innovation, the development of European companies, which, ultimately, means better and more accessible services for citizens", Nicusor Dan wrote on Facebook.

He stated that he presented to Antonio Costa Romania's action priorities in the context of the upcoming meeting.

"Firstly, we support the simplification of business bureaucracy in the European Union, we support the strengthening of the Single Market and we welcome the extension of trade agreements at the European Union level. Secondly, we support a longer transition for the implementation of green energy policies, so that they are sustainable and do not negatively affect our economy. Thirdly, Romania wants to strengthen an Energy Union, an interconnection of networks and a genuine European energy market. Our goal is to create mechanisms for Romanians to pay reasonable energy bills and for companies in the country to have competitive energy costs. Regarding the new Multiannual Financial Framework 2028-2034, I conveyed to the President of the European Council that Romania considers the weight allocated to increasing competitiveness to be beneficial, but that it is necessary to take into account and geographical criteria, so that all states benefit from equal opportunities for resources to reduce the economic gaps between European countries," the Romanian head of state mentioned.
