President Nicusor Dan said on Tuesday in Timisoara that Romania enjoys a geographical advantage as regards its joining the reconstruction of Ukraine, but that "there is still much to do" and "an X-ray of the companies" that can participate in this effort is necessary.
Attending the "Europe at the Crossroads - Security, Prosperity and Our Common Future" Conference in Timisoara, which also included a Q & A session, the president was asked how prepared is Romania to become an important player in the rebuilding of Ukraine.
"We are very prepared from a geographical perspective," the president immediately replied, and was met with laughter by the audience.
He added that Romania has some assets to count on, such as the Port of Constanta, the Danube and the fact that "during the entire war period, certain logistic routes were created between Romania and Ukraine", both for humanitarian and military purposes.
"Beyond that, I think we still have work to do here, internally, to have an X-ray of the companies that can really qualify for the reconstruction. Of course, there are multiple stakes - in administrative, social, post-conflict security terms - but the most important is the economic one and on this we still have work to do," said Nicusor Dan.
