President Nicusor Dan sent a message on Thursday on the occasion of National Flag Day, in which he affirmed that the tricolor remains "the bond that unites us, wherever we are."
"National Flag Day offers us a good opportunity to reflect on the symbols that define our identity as a state. Along with the Coat of Arms and the Anthem, the Flag was present in all crucial moments of the construction of modern Romania, from gaining independence to the consolidation of democracy. Today, we pay tribute to those who defended this symbol with their lives, the soldiers who fell in battle, the war veterans, as well as those who acted in theaters of operations. Under the Flag, Romania strengthened its place in NATO and the European Union. The sacrifices of the heroes of December 1989 restored our freedom, and the National Flag is today flown alongside those of other states that share the same values, principles and ideals," according to the Presidential Administration.
President Nicusor Dan shows that, in a difficult period for the whole of Europe, Romania is a pivot of stability and contributes significantly to European and Euro-Atlantic security. He also emphasizes that our country - a reliable ally within NATO - maintains a solid and relevant position in the European Union and deepens the Strategic Partnership with the United States of America.
"The strength of the Romanian nation, both internally and externally, is given by our solidarity around democratic values, also expressed through national symbols. The flag remains the bond that unites us, wherever we are, and the hoisting of the Tricolor always fills us with joy and emotion. Happy birthday to our Tricolor! Happy birthday, Romania!" the head of state concluded.
The Presidential Administration informs that the Cotroceni Palace will be illuminated on Thursday evening in the colors of the Tricolor on the occasion of National Flag Day.
