No requests for assistance received by Consulate General of Romania in Seville yet, in the context of train crash

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) on Monday informed that the Consulate General of Romania in Seville did not receive any requests for assistance yet, in the context of the train accident that occurred on Sunday evening in Spain and caused 40 deaths.

According to a press release sent to AGERPRES on Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Consulate General of Romania in Seville, took note of the train accident in the Cordoba region and took urgent steps with the local authorities to get official information regarding the possibility of Romanian citizens being among the affected persons.

MAE stated that, based on the information provided by the Spanish authorities, the extrication procedures and the investigation are ongoing, providing information related to the victims not being possible at this time.

The consular office representatives are monitoring the situation, as they remain in touch with the relevant authorities and they are ready to provide consular assistance at any time.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs that Romanian citizens can request consular assistance at the telephone number of the Consulate General of Romania in Seville: +34 954 233 243; +34 954 230 947; +34 954 624 053, calls being redirected to the Contact and Support Center for Romanian Citizens Abroad (CCSCRS) and taken over by Call Centre operators on a 24-hour basis.

Romanian citizens who are facing a difficult situation also have at their disposal the emergency number of the Consulate General of Romania in Seville: +34 648 212 169.

An Iryo train traveling from Malaga to Madrid derailed on Sunday and entered the tracks on which an Alvia train was traveling at 200 kilometers per hour in the opposite direction, heading towards Huelva. A total of 484 passengers from both trains were affected. The death toll has reached 39, according to sources close to the investigation who spoke to EFE on Monday. A total of 73 people are still hospitalised, 24 of them in serious condition, including four minors.
