During a meeting on Thursday with ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to Romania Hilde Svartdal Lunde, the management of the Constanta City Hall expressed their desire for entering tourism cooperation arrangements with Norway, the municipality said in a release.
The diplomat, who was at her first visit to Constanta since submitting her letters of accreditation, mentioned the sustainable maritime cooperation relations between Romania and Norway, the development of which is also due to the 22-year long contribution of Honorary Consul of Norway in Constanta Laurentiu Lazar.
Ambassador Hilde Svartdal Lunde underscored the region's potential for cooperation in the fields of green energy and tourism, where Norway has long-standing experience. Deputy mayor Ionut Rusu gave the guests a detailed presentation of the development strategy of the municipality and of the projects currently being implemented, with an emphasis on achieving a green and sustainable city. He also spoke about the specificities of tourism in the municipality and expressed the desire for bilateral cooperation in this area.
The meeting also discussed the Constanta City Hall accessing funds within the upcoming Norwegian Financial Mechanism, which is still under negotiation, funding that will be made available to Romania for the promotion of a set of general thematic priorities, specifically: the European green transition, democracy, the rule of law and human rights, as well as social inclusion and resilience, the release adds.
Ambassador Hilde Svartdal Lunde and consul Laurentiu Lazar, who was part of the delegation, expressed their willingness to organize meetings to present to local authorities and Constanta business people the opportunities offered by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism, as soon as the facility becomes operational for the next seven years.
