As of the end of Q1 there were 191,743 investors on the domestic capital market, which is a new all-time high after a 7.4 percent increase from 178,545 at the end of 2023, the Financial Supervisory Authority (ASF) announced on Friday.

The capitalization of the regulated market managed by the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) was 14.3 percent up in the first five months of this year, from RON 294.25 billion at the end of 2023 to almost RON 336.3 billion at the end of May.

This growth occurred against the background of the appreciation of the listed shares, as the main BET index scored a return of over 14%, and the approximately RON 700 million initial public offering conducted this May was successfully completed.

After registering the largest European IPO in 2023, the domestic capital market once again confirmed the high financing potential of the Romanian economy, as both the retail and institutional tranches of the 2024 offering were oversubscribed.

The segment of undertakings for collective investment in transferable securities authorized by the ASF also registered positive developments this year.

ASF is the national financial watchdog established in 2013, and contributes to the consolidation of the integrated operating framework of the three sectors, which have a combined of over ten million participants.
