Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan has sent the Presidential Administration the proposal for Oana Gheorghiu to fill the vacant position of Deputy Prime Minister, following the resignation of Dragos Anastasiu in August.
At the age of 56, Oana Gheorghiu is a graduate of the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies, class of 1994, with a specialization in economic management.
Co-founder and co-president (since February 2025, previously vice-president) of the Daruieste Viata [Give Life] Association, Oana Gheorghiu has been involved for more than a decade in the development of medical infrastructure projects and in advocacy campaigns that have changed the way society views the state's responsibility in healthcare, according to a Government press release.
"She coordinated the drawing of over 100 million euros through donations and private sponsorships, together with over 500,000 donors and 10,000 companies. The most important achievement is the Hospital for Children with Cancer and Other Serious Diseases, built from scratch at Marie Curie (12,000 sqm, 9 floors, over 140 beds), the first project of this type in Romania. Oana Gheorghiu's experience in projects that have produced fundamental changes in Romanian society is now put to the service of even broader projects to reform Romania, at a time when our country needs all its energies to lay the foundations of a state that functions much better for the benefit of its citizens," the press release states.
