The list of acquisitions Romania will make under the SAFE programme is set to be made public at the end of November, Minister of Foreign Affairs Oana Toiu announced on Monday.
"The final list, both for Romania's acquisitions and for those of other countries, will be made public first to the Commission and then to the general public at the end of November this year," Oana Toiu stated during a press conference held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE).
She mentioned that the topic was also discussed during her recent meetings in Washington with U.S. officials.
"The position of the United States, reiterated during the meetings in Washington, is partially critical towards the European Union's rules on funding defence-related acquisitions from European resources, including through the SAFE programme. What we discussed in Washington were the existing options under the current framework namely, the possibility of joint investments. The rules stipulate that if 35% of the final product, either in terms of investment or components, comes from a country outside the European Union and outside those that have signed the SAFE partnership, the product can still be included on the list of acquisitions financed through the SAFE mechanism," Toiu explained.
