A minor and two young men from Afghanistan were found by Giurgiu border guards while trying to enter Romania illegally, through the Giurgiu border crossing point, hiding in the semi-trailer of a truck transporting metal subassemblies from Turkey to Romania.
"At the Giurgiu border crossing point, a 31-year-old Turkish citizen who was driving a truck presented himself for border formalities. The driver was transporting metal subassemblies from Turkey for a Romanian company, according to the documents accompanying the goods. Following the preliminary inspection of the means of transport, the border guards found that the insurance cord was sectioned and glued, which is why they carried out a thorough inspection of the truck. Three young people have been found hidden, in its semi-trailer," reads a press release issued of the Giurgiu Inspectorate for the Border Police on Monday.
During the investigation, the authorities established that the persons are Afghan citizens, aged 16, 27 and 28, respectively.
They told police that they boarded a vehicle while on Turkish territory without the driver's knowledge and intended to reach Germany.
In this context, the border guards interrupted the journey of the persons, and according to the Romanian-Bulgarian protocol, the three Afghan citizens, the driver and the means of transport were taken over by the Bulgarian authorities, in order to continue the legal investigations, Agerpres informs.
