One of the instigators of the violence in Victoriei Square was stopped by police while driving and found to have a pistol in his car, judicial sources told AGERPRES.
According to the sources, the man was pulled over in Bihor County while heading home after participating in the protest in front of the Government headquarters.
Police found a pistol in his car, a weapon requiring a possession permit.
He was detained and is being brought to Bucharest for questioning.
Before being stopped, the man had posted a message on TikTok under the alias "Scorpion King" threatening law enforcement officers.
The individual is part of a group of instigators led by Ciprian Pamfile, a group that hijacked the shepherds' protest in Victoriei Square on Tuesday and attacked law enforcement.
So far, authorities have detained five men who took part in the protest violence, including Ciprian Pamfile, a supporter of Calin Georgescu.
Another protester was caught with a knife on Tuesday and detained for 24 hours, after which prosecutors released him. According to the Prosecutor's Office with the Bucharest Court, investigations conducted so far have established that 10 gendarmes were injured during Tuesday's protest, with some requiring medical attention, and that several items of property were destroyed, including a Gendarmerie vehicle, safety barriers, and assets belonging to the Bucharest Transport Company.
