Over 1.4 million cross Romania's borders at week-end

Over 1.4 million Romanian and foreign citizens crossed the Romanian border over the weekend both in and out the country, the General Border Police Inspectorate (IGPF) reported on Monday, told Agerpres.

The highest traffic - approximately 637,000 people - was recorded at the Romanian-Hungarian border both in and out the country, followed by the border with Bulgaria, where traffic was 334,000 people during the same period.

As many as 174,114 people, including 17,518 Ukrainian citizens, entered Romania on Sunday.

Starting February 10, 2022 (pre-conflict time) 5,800,490 Ukrainian citizens entered Romania.

The border police detected 62 illegal acts (38 crimes and 24 misdemeanors) in the areas under their jurisdiction - the crossing points and the green border - committed by both Romanian and foreign citizens, levying about RON 31,165 in fines in the process.

Assets of an estimated value of RON 41,397,200 were impounded.

Fourteen foreign citizens who did not meet the conditions provided by the law were denied entry.

Also on Sunday, 27 Romanian citizens were not allowed to leave the country for various legal reasons.

"Considering that traffic through the Giurgiu-Ruse border crossing (PTF) proceeds with difficulty, we recommend people who intend, in the immediate future, to arrive in Bulgaria to avoid the Giurgiu PTF and to transit the border through other border crossings from Bulgaria," said IGPF.
