In the first three months of the year, police intercepted over 16 million cigarettes and almost 500 kilograms of tobacco, opening 127 criminal cases in which 175 people are being investigated, the Romanian Police Inspectorate General reports on Saturday in a release.
99 actions to crack down on tobacco and tobacco product smuggling were carried out in the reporting periods, resulting in the seizure of 16,780,468 cigarettes and 492 kilograms of tobacco, the police said.
Also, 142 crimes were found and 282 sanctions in a total amount of RON 2,556,822 were handed down.
