Out of the total sales of new cars, the share of hybrid and electric cars stood at 2.2 percent in 2017, their number reaching 2,811 units, an increase of 136.7 percent as compared to the previous year, according to statistics with the Association of Automobile Manufacturers and Importers (APIA), consulted by AGERPRES.
Thus, 514 are hundred-percent electric vehicles (an increase of 207.8 percent against 2016) and 2,297 hybrid units (+126.1 percent).
In December 2017, 448 electric and hybrid cars were sold, up by 58.3 percent as compared to the previous months when 283 units were sold.
Topping the ranking of the most traded hundred-percent electric vehicle brands, between January-December 2017, is BMW (166), followed by Renault (98), Volkswagen (86), Mercedes-Benz (64), Mitsubishi (32), Volvo (20), Audi (14), Porsche (12) and Kia (7).
Furthermore, most hybrid cars sold in Romania in the first 12 months of 2017 were Toyota (2,063 units), followed by Lexus (154), Kia (22) and Mercedes-Benzes (2).
The APIA statistics show that in 2017 the number of new hybrid and electric cars sold in Romania stood at 1,195 units, up 205 percent from 2015.
