Over 7.6 million tourists registered in accommodation units in Romania in first 7 months, down 0.8%

The number of tourists arriving in accommodation units in Romania in the first seven months of the year was 7.603 million, down 0.8% compared to the same period in 2024, according to data published on Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

According to official statistics, at the end of July 2025, of the total number of arrivals, those of Romanian tourists represented 81.9%, while the arrivals of foreign tourists amounted to 18.1%.

At the same time, overnight stays recorded in tourist accommodation structures (including apartments and rooms for rent), between January 1 and July 31, 2025, amounted to 16.023 million, up 0.3% compared to the same period of the previous year.

Of the total number of overnight stays, Romanian tourists had the largest share, 82.1%, with the remaining 19.7% coming from foreign tourists.

INS data reveal that the average length of stay, in the first seven months, was 2.1 days, for both Romanian and foreign tourists.

By county, the number of tourist arrivals in tourist reception structures with accommodation functions (including apartments and rooms for rent) recorded higher values in: Bucharest (1.117 million people), Constanta (945,400) and Brasov (768,100).

At the same time, overnight stays recorded higher values in: Constanta (2.802 million people), Bucharest (2.260 million) and Brasov (1.445 million).

The most arrivals of foreign tourists accommodated in tourist accommodation facilities came from: Germany (130,700 people), Italy (118,500) and Israel (86,100).

Compared to the similar month in 2024, in July 2025, arrivals recorded in tourist reception structures (including apartments and rooms for rent) amounted to 1.811 million people, down 3.7%, of which Romanian tourists had a share of 85.5%, and foreign tourists 14.5%.

In the same period, the number of overnight stays was 4.442 million, down 4.7% year-on-year, most of which were booked by Romanian tourists (88.2%).

Also in July 2025, the average length of stay was 2.5 days for Romanian tourists, and two days for foreign tourists.

The net utilization index of tourist accommodation places, in the analyzed period, was 38.2% of total tourist accommodation structures (including apartments and rooms for rent), down by 2.5 percentage points compared to July 2024.

The INS specifies that, following Romania's accession to the Schengen Area on January 1, 2025, starting with January of this year, information regarding the arrivals of foreign visitors to Romania and the departures of Romanian visitors abroad are no longer comparable and will no longer be published.
