Romanian Deputies will observe a moment of silence during the plenary sitting on February 23 in memory of Ukrainians killed in the war, and on February 24 the Palace of Parliament will be illuminated in the colours of the neighbouring country's flag, the Standing Bureau of the Chamber of Deputies decided on Wednesday.
At the same time, on February 24, the Ukrainian flag will be flown in front of the Parliament building.
The Ukrainian Embassy in Romania submitted a request to the Standing Bureau of the Chamber of Deputies regarding the marking, on February 24, of four years since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
'On February 24, 2026, four years will have passed since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. During this period, the Ukrainian people have demonstrated exceptional heroism and resilience in confronting the brutal aggressor. In this context, and as a firm expression of solidarity with the Ukrainian people, the Ukrainian side addresses the Romanian side with the proposal to join other countries around the world in commemorating Ukrainian citizens killed in the war through a national moment of silence at the parliamentary sitting closest to the mentioned date, as well as by flying the Ukrainian flag in front of the Romanian Parliament on February 24, and illuminating the building in the colours of the Ukrainian flag. Romania's solidarity with Ukraine is of great importance in overcoming the armed aggression of the Russian Federation, restoring respect for the fundamental principles of international law and developing a peaceful, resilient and prosperous Europe,' the memorandum sent by the Embassy of Ukraine to the Standing Bureau states.
