Patriarch Daniel of the Romanian Orthodox Church received on Friday at the Patriarchal Residence ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Bucharest Gudsi Osmanov on an introductory visit, with His All-Holiness emphasizing on the occasion the need for the two states to further develop their good relations.

"His All-Holiness Patriarch Daniel referenced the good friendship and cooperative relations between Romania and Azerbaijan and emphasized the need to intensify these ties in several spheres of activity. Also, the Patriarch of Romania highlighted the need and benefit of organizing pilgrimages for Romanian Orthodox believers to the places of particular religious, historical and cultural importance in Azerbaijan," the Department for Church, Interreligious Relations and Ecclesiastical Communities Abroad of the Romanian Patriarchate said in the release.

In his turn, the Azerbaijani diplomat thanked for the reception and emphasized the important role falling on the Orthodox Church in the contemporary Romanian society.

"Furthermore, during the meeting, Mr. Ambassador expressed his appreciation for the spiritual and cultural riches of the Romanian people, mentioning the fact that the unity and continuity of the Romanian nation, hard-tried throughout its history as it sat at the intersection of three mighty empires: the Ottoman Empire, the Habsburg Empire and the Russian Empire - were preserved thanks to its piety and faith," the Patriarchate said.
