The Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church (BOR), His Beatitude Daniel said on Monday, after blessing the clergy of the Patriarchal Cathedral with the Great Holy Water, that the Baptism of the Lord is the foundation of all Holy Sacraments, serving as the gateway both to the Church and to the Kingdom of Heaven.
"We renew our baptism through partaking of the sanctified water of the Great Holy Water," His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel said at the event held at the patriarchal residence on the Eve of the Lord's Epiphany, according to basilica.ro website.
The Patriarch stated that no one can receive the other Sacraments without the Sacrament of the Holy Baptism.
"Through Baptism, not only is the forgiveness of original sin and personal sins given, but also the beginning of a new life, life in Christ and in the Holy Spirit," Patriarch Daniel added.
Referring to the blessing of the waters, Patriarch Daniel underscored the practical role of the Great Holy Water in the daily life of the believers.
"On the Feast of the Lord's Epiphany, the nature of waters is sanctified. (...) This holy water is used for the sanctification of the soul and body, for blessing homes, households and the places where people live," the Patriarch conveyed.
"We give glory to God for everything and pray to the Lord Jesus Christ, to the Holy Trinity, to sanctify our lives and grant us the great joy of the Holy Baptism," His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel also said.
Orthodox believers will celebrate the Baptism of the Lord on Tuesday, with 10,000 litres of the Great Holy Water to be distributed at the Patriarchal Cathedral.
