Prime minister Ilie Bolojan, former mayor of Oradea for three terms, participated in the festivities marking the City Day, occasion on which he said he was concerned about the lack of responsibility, the tolerance of incompetence and sometimes the lack of respect for Romanians and that as long as he remains in office as prime minister, he will do everything in his power for the country and for Oradea.
Bolojan spoke about the history of the city and the country, with thoughts of gratitude and gratitude for the heroes of the nation, with appreciation for the very important, difficult and dangerous decisions that the leaders of Transylvania made in 1918.
"On October 12, 1918, here was a no-man's land, where if you made such decisions, as the leaders of the Romanian community in Transylvania in Oradea did, you were risking your life. As we all know, Ioan Ciordas and Nicolae Bolcas were both assassinated only a couple of months away. The people who led our community had the strength to make decisions and this decisions were essential for what happened later through the reading of this declaration when we stood on our own two feet in the Parliament in Budapest, through the negotiations in Arad of the Romanian National Council, through the decision synthesized by Iuliu Maniu, total separation and through what happened later in Alba Iulia," said Bolojan said according to Agerpres.
Bolojan wanted, first of all, to thank the Oradea residents who voted for him three times for the position of mayor.
"And if I became prime minister, first of all, this is due to the city of Oradea and the people of this city. And I want to thank you for doing me the honour of voting me mayor three times and for what you have done in all these years, in the factories where you work, in public companies or in public services, in your families, in the communities of Oradea, in the churches here, because if Oradea has changed in these years, it is primarily the merit of the Oradea residents. Thank you, I respect you," Ilie Bolojan also said.
The head of the Executive continued by saying that the country must develop as a unit.
"It cannot be good in Oradea, or in Constanta, or in Iasi, or in Sighetu Marmatiei, or in Turnu Severin, if the country is not good in general. And just as economists know that the rating of a locality cannot be higher than the rating of the country, in order to raise our localities, we must raise our country," he stated.
The audience present in the square applauded Bolojan's speech, who, before setting off for the 'Aurel Lazar' Memorial Museum, stayed a little longer outside the official programme to shake hands with several Oradea residents.
The festive ceremony in the central square of the municipality, decorated with tricolor garlands, began with the reception of prime minister Ilie Bolojan, accompanied by the commander of the Oradea Garrison, lieutenant colonel Vasile Simion and the honour guard.
After the singing of the National Anthem, a religious service was held in front of the statue of King Ferdinand, placed there during Bolojan's last term at Oradea City Hall.
Mayor Florin Birta emphasised that, since 1992, Oradea has been wearing festive clothes on October 12, "a day that changed the destiny of both the city and the entire Romanian nation."
"Today, when we look at modern Oradea, we must recognisze that our true strength stems from respect for the fundamental principles that guide the state's relationship with its citizens: honesty, efficiency and responsibility," said mayor Florin Birta.
Mayor Birta also spoke about the development of Oradea with the help of European funds, about investments in infrastructure, health, economy and education.
