Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan said on Friday that it is not certain that the cap on natural gas prices will be lifted this April, but a decision is expected in the next two weeks, based on the results of an analysis carried out these days of this capping scheme.

"This year, in the calculation of decreasing the inflation rate, the protection schemes in the gas area, for example, are an important component, and we are doing all the calculations these days so that the capping scheme, which expires in the spring, to see what decision to take, what the simulations related to the gas market are, what the possible effects are and what the effects in the inflationary area would be. (...) We are working on the analysis of this capping scheme to see what the developments are moving forward. It is not certain that the cap will be discarded, but we cannot extend it very much either, because we there is an infringement procedure going on. So, we are violating a European directive with this capping formula and we don't have much time left, it's just a matter of Monday's level, in which we could still make a certain transitional formula. We have to see how we manage things moving forward," Bolojan told Radio Romania News public broadcaster.

In a week, two weeks, at most, we will make a decision based on the analyses that are made, so that it is a predictable decision a few months in advance, so that the gas market can settle down and we will not go very close to April, the prime minister added.
