PM Ciolacu, Canadian Senate President Gagne discuss development of civil nuclear energy
Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu on Wednesday had a meeting at the Victoria Palace with a parliamentary delegation from Canada, led by the President of the Senate, Raymonde Gagne, told Agerpres.
The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations in the fields of energy, education, environment, investments, the regional security situation and the support given to Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, the Government informs through a press release.
Marcel Ciolacu thanked the Canadian side for financing the process of upgrading Unit 1 at CNE Cernavoda, but also the development and operation of Units 3 and 4, while also mentioning the upcoming visit of the Minister of Energy Sebastian Burduja to Canada.
"The development of civil nuclear energy represents one of the main objectives of Romania's energy security strategy, contributing to the achievement of the goals of decarbonisation of the electricity production sector and maintaining the stability of the National Energy System," stated Marcel Ciolacu.
The Romanian Prime Minister emphasized the need to strengthen the security of the Euro-Atlantic area, by consolidating NATO's position on the Eastern Flank. He also thanked for the "important" presence of the Canadian Air Task Force in Romania, under the command of NATO, which ended last December.
"This visit offers real opportunities for strengthening the bilateral relationship between our countries and developing joint projects in areas of strategic importance. We are interested in finalizing and signing a Consolidated Partnership Declaration and a roadmap with concrete actions in our bilateral cooperation," Marcel Ciolacu also stated.
