Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu on Tuesday congratulated Mark Rutte on taking over as NATO Secretary General, showing his gratitude to the former head of the North Atlantic Alliance, Jens Stoltenberg, for his work.

"Wishing Mark Rutte @SecGenNATO the very best and looking forward to working with him!," Marcel Ciolacu wrote in a post on X platform on Tuesday.

At the same time, he voiced gratitude for Jens Stoltenberg's work as Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance.

Ciolacu thanked Jens Stoltenberg for his invaluable contribution to strengthening NATO in difficult times and for his unwavering commitment to Euro-Atlantic security, including Romania and the Eastern Flank.

Former Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte became NATO's new Secretary General on October 1, 2024, after a handover ceremony at the North Atlantic Alliance headquarters in Brussels, dpa reports.

Rutte thanked his NATO allies for entrusting him with the leadership role, succeeding Norwegian Jens Stoltenberg as Secretary General.
