Premier Dacian Ciolos on Saturday wrote on Facebook that "Something wonderful is happening this weekend" at the Government headquarters, referring to the digital marathon GovITHub organized at the Victoria Palace of Government, where more than 100 young IT professionals are developing programs to support the citizens and public administration.

"Something wonderful is happening this weekend at the Government HQ. An outburst of creativity and excitement kindled by the 20 grant recipients and more than 100 GovITHub volunteers, all young IT professionals who will be working full time till Sunday evening to come up with modern solutions in support of the citizens and the administration. I am glad to see on the list of the projects in the works inspired ideas such as: an application providing Romanians overseas with a better connection to whatever happens at home; a project for viewing and accessing public institutions' data; an application through which the public sector can provide the citizens customized information in the form of alerts; a project whereby the patients can assess in all fairness the medical services they receive; an initiative to allow the reporting of illegal parking directly to the authorities in charge," the Premier wrote on Facebook.

Dacian Ciolos said that the energy, the skills and passion of the youth are proof that Romania can modernize and that once the Government shows openness, the most valuable resources can be harnessed.

"I thank them for their involvement, for their effort, and I assure them of my full support with putting their ideas into practice, because the benefits will be for all the citizens. At the same time, for these ideas to yield tangible results for the citizens, I call on all my colleagues in public institutions to be open to taking up and implementing the completed solutions," the PM said.

Over 100 young IT experts gathered on Saturday at the Victoria Palace for the GovITHub digital marathon aimed at developing applications and software solutions set to improve the quality of public services and the citizens' relationship with state institutions.

The "hackaton" - as the event is known among IT professionals, sees grant recipients and volunteers attempting for two days to develop project prototypes with applications and software solutions.

Among the potential projects proposed for implementation through the participatory platform ithub.gov.ro are software applications and solutions such as:

* The patient's friend - a functional system for collecting patient feedback;

* Stop to queuing - a system of programming and information on counter queues;

* Gov 2.0 - improving and streamlining government platforms to render them friendlier and easier to use;

* MFP on the phone - an application aimed at increasing the number of citizens who use the Finance Ministry's virtual services via mobile phone;

* Business Start - an application that explains the various forms of business organization in Romania, complete with benefits and drawbacks for the entrepreneurs, and in which cases they are recommendable;

* Real estate transaction records - an application that allows retrieving the records of the transactions performed for a certain building or in a given area;

* RoadRo - an application that allows citizens to report abuses by drivers (illegal parking in the first stage, major violations of the Traffic Code in a subsequent stage).
