Chairman of the People's Movement Party (PMP) stated on Thursday that the head of state, President Klaus Iohannis, lied when he said that the opposition didn't come with a proposal for the Prime Minister office, adding that "it looks like" it was Iohannis' option for Mihai Tudose to take over this office.

"Mr President Klaus Iohannis lied in the film and arrangement he had with Dragnea, in order to be able to excuse himself. He very much wanted for nobody to make any proposal so he can stay with Dragnea's. It is regrettable that a president lied publicly, and I have brought arguments there. I said: Siegfried Muresan represents a EPP [ European People's Party] party. In Romania's Parliament there are two more EPP parties, therefore, three in total: there are the Liberals, the UDMR [Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania] and PMP. Moreover, the USR [Save Romania Union] would have definitely voted an option of the opposition, and Siegfried Muresan matches the USR, in terms of mentality, professional training," Traian Basescu stated, when asked about the reaction of President Iohannis, according to which the opposition didn't come with a proposal.

Basescu claimed that he presented Siegfried Muresan to President Iohannis, as proposal for the prime minister office, with arguments.

"I wouldn't say it shocked me, but I was surprised by a President's nerve to publicly lie, and the argument that I have brought you with the EPP and USR, please believe me that I have also conveyed it to the President. I have warned him that if he is to nominate Mihai Tudose he might enter a trap set by Dragnea, but it looks like Tudose was an option of Mr President Iohannis, and not a trap of Dragnea," Basescu stated.
