Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan will pay an official visit to Austria on Wednesday and Thursday, at the invitation of Chancellor Christian Stocker, and on his way to Vienna he will meet with his Hungarian counterpart, Viktor Orban, on the topic of cooperation between the three countries for the development of interconnections in the electricity sector.
According to a Government's press release, Bolojan will be accompanied by Bogdan Ivan, Minister of Energy, Oana Toiu, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mihai Jurca, Head of the Prime Minister's Chancellery, and Dragos Hotea, Secretary of State. The Austrian delegation will include the Federal Minister for Europe, Integration and Family, Claudia Plakolm, the Federal Minister for Economy, Energy and Tourism, Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer, and the Federal Minister of Finance, Markus Marterbauer.
The visit's agenda includes face-to-face discussions, plenary talks, and a working lunch hosted by Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker, attended by representatives of Romanian and Austrian companies.
Prime Minister Bolojan will also attend the Romanian National Day reception organized by the Romanian Embassy in Austria.
"The main objective of the visit is to strengthen bilateral relations, both politically and economically, and to achieve closer coordination at the regional and European levels, given the current challenges in our region. Cooperation in the economic sector will also target other areas with potential for increased investment in both markets," the press release states.
Austria's support for Romania's accession to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) will also be discussed.
Special attention will be paid to cooperation in the energy field in order to ensure affordable electricity prices for the population and competitive prices for companies, the Government announced.
"Ensuring affordable electricity prices for the population and competitive prices for companies remains, in addition to energy security, a major priority for the Romanian Government. An important element in this direction is the improvement of the interconnection in the electricity sector between the states in our region, a topic that Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan will address with Federal Chancellor Christian Stocker. In order to make real progress, it is essential to have an open dialogue with our neighbors directly involved and affected by the current functioning of the interconnections in the electricity sector. Therefore, on the way to Vienna, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan will have a meeting in Budapest with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, with the participation of UDMR leader Kelemen Hunor. The cooperation between Romania, Hungary and Austria for the development of interconnections in the electricity sector will be discussed," the release reads.
