PNL's Bogdan: Increasing dividend tax, lowering ceiling for micro-entrepises, red lines for PNL

National Liberal Party (PNL) First Deputy Chairman Rares Bogdan stressed on Monday that maintaining the tax rate on dividends at 8% and keeping the 500,000 euro threshold for micro-enterprises are "red lines" for the Liberals, told Agerpres.

He said that the PNL will not accept that in the act of the Government's responsibility there should be an increase in the tax on dividends or lowering the ceiling for micro-enterprises from 500,000 euros.

"We do not agree with the 10 or 14% increase. We don't agree with lowering the ceiling for micro-enterprises from 500,000 euros. The ceiling must remain at 500,000 euros, even if until 2017 the ceiling for microenterprises was 100,000 euros. The 500,000-euro ceiling helps micro-enterprises. And we are talking about 360,000 microenterprises in Romania that fall under this ceiling. We do not agree, because it is a direct attack on property and we cannot conceive of this in the grace year 2023, with a 1% tax on cumulative property," said Rares Bogdan, in a statement to the press, before the meeting of the governing coalition.

The MEP added that, without reforms, Romania risks losing European funds.

"There are many measures that will help, but at the same time we must look at the other side of the coin. The other side of the coin is to lose European funds. We have so far signed contracts for 17 billion of the National Resilience and Recovery Plan (PNRR) money. We have 9.8 billion already attracted from the PNRR. This is money we have to pay, so this money has to be attracted. In order to attract this money, reforms are needed, because the European Commission gives the money, but reforms are needed, because you don't take the money without giving something in return. The situation is similar with the Structural Funds and we do not want to find ourselves in a situation where the European Commission, which has already sent two letters to Romania, ends up penalising good payers and those who use European money for community development," he explained.
