Police carries out over 1,600 searches, 400 summons in several cases with high damage

Operation Jupiter 3 - the largest coordinated operation in the history of the Romanian Police and the Public Ministry, carried out between June 2 and 6 - involved over 1,600 searches, 400 arrest warrants and preventive measures were ordered against 230 people.

"Carried out under the coordination of the Prosecutor's Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice, in collaboration with the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police (IGPR), the operation is directed against economic and financial crimes, crimes involving weapons and hazardous substances, environmental protection and also crimes of a judicial nature," informs a press release of the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police (IGPR) sent to AGERPRES on Tuesday.

The economic crime investigation police officers carried out 145 large-scale evidence management actions in 145 ongoing criminal cases, conducting 845 home searches and executing 274 arrest warrants.

As a result, preventive measures were ordered against 109 people.

"In order to recover the estimated damage of 190,246,831 lei, precautionary measures worth over 70,000,000 lei were applied," the same source says.

In the field of weapons, explosives and hazardous substances, 606 home search warrants were implemented in 179 criminal cases of smuggling, failure to comply with the weapons and ammunition regime, poaching, unauthorised use of weapons, failure to comply with the explosives regime and failure to comply with the hazardous waste regime.

In these criminal cases, investigations are being carried out against 103 people, for 18 of whom preventive measures have been ordered.

"In order to continue the investigations, ten lethal weapons, 444 non-lethal weapons, 920 rounds of ammunition for lethal weapons, 141,804 rounds of non-lethal ammunition, a grenade, 23 trophies, 90 CO2 gas cylinders, 17 crossbows, 23 dogs, 1,003 litres of plant protection products, 2,470 litres of hazardous waste, as well as other relevant goods and documents were seized," the IGPR states.

Police officers implemented 119 home search warrants in criminal cases in which investigations are being conducted into cases of robbery, blackmail, deprivation of liberty, aggravated theft, fraud, pimping and computer crimes.

At the same time, preventive measures were ordered against 81 people.

"In the criminal cases, the estimated damage is approximately 2,500,000 euros, with precautionary measures of over 400,000 euros being applied and other assets worth approximately 370,000 euros being frozen," the press release added.

Public order police officers carried out seven operational actions and implemented 83 home search warrants, targeting environmental crimes, in the areas of forestry, pisciculture and waste management.

As many as 39 arrest warrants were also implemented, with preventive measures being ordered against 22 people.

At the same time, two vehicles worth 25,000 euros were seized and 40 tonnes of non-ferrous waste, ten fishing gear, in the case of which possession is prohibited, ten chainsaws, three vehicles, two non-lethal weapons, in the case of which possession is prohibited, and approximately 40,000 euros, as well as other goods and documents of interest in the cases were seized.

The main crimes investigated are tax evasion, fraud, smuggling, illegal obtaining of funds, embezzlement, tax fraud, counterfeiting, non-compliance with environmental protection legislation, non-compliance with the weapons and ammunition regime and others.
