The connection between Romanian students in the country and those in the diaspora is an essential pillar for promoting the identity and values we share, even if we find ourselves in different places, President Nicusor Dan said on Monday.

He conveyed a message on the occasion of the fifth edition of the Forum of Romanian Students Everywhere, presented by presidential advisor Luminita Odobescu.

"In the dynamic society we live in, distance is reduced through modern means of communication, which facilitate opportunities for collaboration and the exchange of ideas in finding solutions to current issues related to security, the economy, or technological developments," the head of state pointed out.

He remarked that the Forum's themes - education, youth, environment, health and foreign affairs - are aligned with the United Nations' 2030 Agenda and 'reflect priorities that Romania also supports on the international stage': access to quality education, environmental protection, health for all and the defence of democracy and human rights.

"We live in a world of multiple crises, where global solidarity and cooperation are essential for successfully responding to the challenges we face. Students in the country and those in the diaspora have the opportunity to become architects of lasting bridges through which innovative ideas and valuable experiences can flow freely. Your voices can bring more tolerance, respect and inclusion to society and, at the same time, can transform new channels of communication into tools for strengthening trust and combating disinformation, fake news and hybrid actions," Nicusor Dan said.

He welcomed the fact that the debates held during the Forum will be synthesised into a Resolution addressed to public authorities.

"It is a sign of civic maturity and democratic responsibility. Romania needs young people who speak out clearly about society's needs, who put forward bold proposals for public policy, and who demonstrate that leadership does not depend on age, but on courage and engagement," the president added.
