President Nicusor Dan visited Antibiotice Iasi on Friday, where he discussed with the company's director how Romanian diplomacy can support export growth and how European funds and aid schemes can be optimised to generate added value.
"I discussed two important matters with the director in the few minutes we had: how Romanian diplomacy can help a producer like Antibiotice Iasi sell more abroad, which we want in order to balance the trade deficit, and how we can optimise European funds and aid schemes so that state intervention, whether from European funds or the national budget, goes where it creates the greatest added value. This is a discussion we need to continue," President Dan said.
The head of state praised Antibiotice Iasi for overcoming the challenges of the 1990s and lauded the company's performance and development prospects.
Nicusor Dan noted that "it is remarkable that this is a Romanian company that is a world leader for one product and a major player globally for many others," while also investing in research and running social programmes.
"It is remarkable that the company invests in research. It is remarkable that it knows how to work with European funds and develop in today's context, and looks to the future. It is remarkable that it uses dual education systems in both higher and pre-university education. This addresses one of our education system's shortcomings: the gap between the labour market and what schools produce, and the need to adapt. It is also remarkable that the company runs social programmes, such as school support for rural students, identifying those in need and helping them pursue the education they deserve," the president said.
In turn, Antibiotice Iasi Director Ioan Nani emphasised the company's commitment to developing the national industry and expressed confidence that the president's visit will have "a positive effect" on future activity.
He stressed that Antibiotice Iasi is a company "that respects, through tradition, its present and especially its future prospects."
