Everyone desires peace, stability, prosperity in Gaza, but the question is how to act for it, Romania's President Nicusor Dan said on Thursday, in a speech to the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace in Washington.
Romania attended as an observer.
Dan said President Donald Trump's peace plan for Gaza was "comprehensive and stable."
"I think everyone desires peace, stability, prosperity in Gaza, but the question is how to act for it. And that's why this meeting and this format are important," he said.
Dan added that on the humanitarian situation, Romania can increase the number of flights in order to extract children with diseases from the Gaza Strip and to treat them in Romanian hospitals, as it has already done.
"We can do for 1,000 children and 4,000 family members," he added.
Also, Dan said that Romania has a good expertise in managing response systems. " We can help in order to rebuild that system, and we can donate some equipment."
At the same time, Dan added that Romania is already offering some scholarships for Palestinian students, and it can extend the programme, and it can help also to rebuild, refurbish schools in Gaza.
"We had also some expertise, we can help to rebuild the institutions, like police, like justice, like public administration. We have done that in other parts of the world, so we have some expertise. We can contribute with experts, with trainers. And also, it's important to say that we have traditionally good relations with Jewish people and with the Palestinian people, so it will help. So you can count on us," Dan concluded.
At the beginning of the event, U.S. President Donald Trump named each leader in attendance. He introduced Dan as the prime minister of Romania and said that Romanians are wonderful people.
"Wonderful people Romanians are, fantastic people. And a lot of them come and work in this country, and help us in this country, as you know, and they are just really solid people," said Trump.
