President Iohannis, Luxembourg's PM arrive at Cincu military base

President Klaus Iohannis arrived on Tuesday at the military base in Cincu, Brasov county, accompanied by Prime Minister of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Xavier Bettel, who is paying a visit at the invitation of the Romanian side, told Agerpres.

According to the Presidential Administration, the two high officials will hold political consultations, visit together the troops stationed at the "Getica" National Joint Training Centre in Cincu and address the Luxembourgish military who are part of the NATO Battle Group in Romania.

Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Francois Bausch is also participating in the visit.

President Klaus Iohannis and Prime Minister Xavier Bettel will have in-depth discussions on strengthening the allied deterrence and defence posture on NATO's Eastern flank, the continuation of multidimensional support to Ukraine, as well as on support for vulnerable partners in the region, with a focus on the Republic of Moldova, seriously affected by the consequences of the war of aggression against Ukraine, the source said.

The consultations will also focus on intensifying Romanian-Luxembourgish cooperation in the area of European affairs, including the adoption of the new Strategic Agenda and the EU enlargement process. Discussions will also focus on ways to further develop bilateral relations, including the security and defence component, which has become a key area of cooperation in the current context.

At the same time, the two high officials will address the deepening of Romanian-Luxembourgish economic and sectoral relations, with a focus on investment and the development of financial markets and cutting-edge technologies.

"The visit of Prime Minister Xavier Bettel reconfirms the intensity of the Romanian-Luxembourg bilateral dialogue and contributes to strengthening the close coordination of the two countries within the European Union and NATO," the Presidential Administration said.
