President Klaus Iohannis will participate on Thursday, in Granada, in the third Summit of the European Political Community (EPC), and on Friday he will be present at the informal meeting of the European Council, the Presidential Administration informed on Tuesday.

President Iohannis will co-chair, together with the Norwegian prime minister the round table during which issues related to energy, the environment and the fight against climate change will be debated. Leaders from Iceland, Monaco, Slovenia, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Poland, Serbia, Malta and Hungary will also participate in this working group, Agerpres reports.

The Romanian president will express Romania's support "for decisive actions in addressing the strategic challenges discussed during the round table, in order to effectively combat climate change and strengthen collective resilience by ensuring a predictable supply of energy, including by limiting dependence on third parties that do not share the same values and by ensuring the sustainability of energy resources".

The informal meeting of the European Council on Friday, hosted in Granada by the Spanish Presidency of the EU Council, has as its main objective the launch of the reflection process on the future Strategic Agenda of the EU, as well as the debate, in this framework, of some major topics such as defense, resilience and competitiveness, the EU's global commitment, migration, as well as enlargement.

Regarding the new Strategic Agenda, president Klaus Iohannis will show that the Strategic Agenda must be designed pragmatically and focus on achieving concrete results.

The president of Romania "will emphasize the strategic nature of enlargement, as one of the most successful policies of the Union" and will plead for a positive decision by the end of this year for the opening of accession negotiations for the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. He will point out, at the same time, that the advancement of the enlargement process and the internal reforms must be treated as complementary processes, which take place simultaneously, in parallel.

The Romanian president will also highlight the fact that "internal resilience largely depends on deepening integration, solidarity and cohesion, by reducing development gaps between member states and avoiding fragmentation".

As regards the migration phenomenon, Klaus Iohannis will highlight that the Union must continue to seek, at this level, the right mix of measures - short, medium and long term - in cooperation with countries of origin and transit, which will be reflected in "customized and mutually beneficial partnerships".
