President Nicusor Dan is inviting the leaders and representatives of the political parties and groups in the Romanian Parliament to Cotroceni Palace on Thursday for consultations regarding the nomination of a candidate for the office of Prime Minister, the Presidential Administration announced.
The schedule for the consultations is as follows:
09:00 - Social Democratic Party (PSD);
09:30 - Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR);
10:00 - National Liberal Party (PNL);
10:30 - Save Romania Union (USR);
11:00 - Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR);
11:30 - Parliamentary Group of National Minorities;
12:00 - S.O.S. Romania Party (SOS);
12:30 - Young People's Party (POT);
13:00 - "United for Romania" Parliamentary Group;
13:30 - PACE - "Romania First" Parliamentary Group;
14:00 - Non-affiliated MPs.
The government led by Ilie Bolojan was dismissed by Parliament on May 5 via a no-confidence motion. Consequently, Romania has had an interim executive for over four months.
Following the government's dismissal, the President made his first nomination for prime minister on June 4: MEP Eugen Tomac.
Ten days later, the head of state appointed Adrian Vestea to form the government, after Eugen Tomac had relinquished his mandate as prime minister-designate. The government proposed by Vestea was rejected by Parliament on June 22.
Since then, President Nicusor Dan has held both official and unofficial consultations with parliamentary party leaders to reach an appointment agreement acceptable to the legislature.
The last official consultations at Cotroceni took place at the end of June.
