The President of the "Women for a Better Society" Association, Ana Maria Pătru, urges young people to view politics not necessarily as a career, but as an essential tool, this being the message conveyed on Thursday at the opening ceremony of the first edition of the International European School Warsaw Model United Nations, which took place inside the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw.
"If you're not at the table, someone else writes the menu for your life," said Ana Maria Pătru, who participated in the event as a speaker and special guest, according to a press release from "Women for a Better Society."
Ana Maria Patru emphasized that young people are not just "the future", but active partners of the present. She highlighted that the mission of the organization she leads is to build a bridge between institutions, business leaders and the new generation.
"We created the Women for a Better Society association out of a simple need: trust. Our mission is to bring together strong women, business leaders and, most importantly, young people who believe that change comes through informed action, not anger," she emphasized.
Drawing on her experience as former president of the Permanent Electoral Authority of Romania, Ana Maria Pătru drew attention to the fact that civic education represents a form of "protection." She explained that an informed citizen, who understands the legislative and budgetary process, is much harder to manipulate.
At the same time, the president of "Women for a Better Society" encouraged young women not to wait for external validation before "getting into the game" and conveyed to young people that social progress is a team effort, and a society only wins when all talent, regardless of gender, is valued.
The event offered a platform for dialogue between generations, benefiting from the perspectives of prominent leaders from various fields.
The Mayor of Warsaw, Rafal Trszaskowski, emphasized personal development, stating that diplomas and school studies are not the most important factors for a person's professional future, it is character that makes the difference and contributes to success.
In turn, the Executive Director of Frontex, Hans Leijtens, addressed one of the continent's greatest challenges and pointed out that migration is a human phenomenon that has been manifesting itself since ancient times, therefore it is important for Europe to be united and work together to ensure fair management of migration, protect human rights and maintain stability.
"I challenge you, this creative and wonderful generation, which is more connected to the political issues of our day and inspired than previous generations thanks to technology, to do much better than we did in turning 'Never Again,' the promise to never allow a repeat of the Holocaust, into a reality," said Mark Brzezinski, former US ambassador to Poland.
According to the cited source, the International European School Warsaw Model United Nations focuses on prioritizing the fundamental values of the European community, such as human dignity, freedom and democracy, encouraging open dialogue and debates on current issues concerning the future of Europe and the world.
