His Royal Highness Prince Radu is on a visit to the Republic of Poland on Thursday and Friday, having the cities of Bydgoszcz, Miedzyrzecz, Wroclaw and Lambinowice on his agenda, the Royal House informs.
On Thursday, Prince Radu visited the 3rd NATO Signal Battalion in Bydgoszcz, where he was welcomed by Colonel Krzysztof Witek, alongside officers from the battalion's command. Prince Radu participated in a presentation of the battalion's activity delivered in the unit's meeting room, and then reviewed some of the battalion's military equipment and weaponry. Romanian ambassador to Poland Cosmin Onisii, and Romania's defense attaché, Colonel Alin Done, were also present.
Next on Prince Radu's schedule was a visit to Poland's 17th Mechanized Brigade in Miedzyrzecz, a high-profile historical military unit with deep ties to Romania and the Royal Family. The unit's commander, Brigadier General Slawomir Kocanowski greeted him alongside officers from the brigade's General Staff and the command of the Logistics Battalion.
The brigade operated on Romania's territory between 2017-2023 as part of a NATO program, and will continue to do so in the years to come.
At his third stop, His Royal Highness visited the Logistics Battalion "King Carol II of Romania" and took part in a short ceremony in the unit's museum hall.
In 1937, the predecessor of the Logistic Battalion of the 17th Brigade - the Polish Army's 57th Infantry Regiment - was named after Romania's then King Carol II. Eighty years later, in May 2017, the Logistics Battalion of the 17th Brigade was renamed "King Carol II of Romania", with Prince Radu representing King Mihai at the ceremony of the unit's new battle flag handover, in Poznan. Also in May 2017, Crown Custodian Margareta granted the battalion the royal patronage, in memory of her grandfather and in honor of the historical relations between the Republic of Poland and the Royal House of Romania.
Prince Radu will end the day in Wroclaw, attending a dinner offered in his honor by the organizers of the Silesia - Romania Business Forum, alongside representatives of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, the Wroclaw City Hall, and Polish business and civil society personalities.
Prince Radu is accompanied on his visit by the chancellor of Her Majesty's House, Traian Sarca, and by director of the Royal Collection Foundation, Radu Ghina. His trip continues on Friday in Wroclaw and Ambinowice.
This is the eighth foreign trip of the Royal Family this year.
