Prince Radu, spouse of Custodian of the Crown of Romania, Margareta, welcomed on Monday at the Elisabeta Palace the participants in this year's Veterans Relay race, applauding them as setters of one of the most beautiful examples to society, told Agerpres.

"We consider you to be one of the most beautiful examples the society has at hand every day for understanding how life is worth living and what is really important in our existence, as sadly we often see that your model of behavior and professional conduct comes somehow in contrast with what happens in everyday life," His Royal Highness said.

Prince Radu also congratulated the participants in the fourth edition of the Royal Duathlon for their results and for the "wonderful impression made on the community".

The representative of the Invictus Volunteer Association, Marian Ilie, gave an emotional address to the Royal Family of Romania and those in attendance.

At the end of the ceremony, Crown Custodian Margareta handed out diplomas of merit to some of the participants in the Veterans Relay.

Servicemen wounded in the theaters of operations, representatives of the National Defence Ministry and members of the Invictus Volunteers Association attended the event at the Elisabeta Palace that marked the end of the 9th edition of the Veterans Relay race that took place between October 5 and 25.

On October 6, Crown Custodian Margareta and Prince Radu welcomed at the entry of Breaza town the relay on its second day of racing the route Ploiesti - Brasov. Along with the Royal Family were students of the Breaza National Military College.

This year's Invictus Veterans Relays traveled three routes totaling over 3,500 kilometers, with civilians and servicemen, high-performance athletes or amateurs, and Invictus Games participants running the race.

The three relay teams met in north-western Carei on October 25, Romanian Army Day, thus paying tribute to the historic moment of October 25, 1944 and honoring Romania's heroes and veterans.

The Invictus Volunteers Association has been under the High Patronage of Prince Radu since 2016.
