Strengthening the energy sector is one of the Government's priorities, with increasing energy storage capacities being essential, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan said.
"Another important area, which is a priority for the Government, is to strengthen our energy sector and what derives from this sector. It is important to increase our storage capacities and we will put pressure on Hidroelectrica. In order to increase their storage capacities, they should build 500 megawatts of storage capacities. They have quite large delays, but each megawatt in storage means a lower price for energy, which our country purchases at peak consumption in the evening, when we do not have enough energy, and doubled by the savings that are made through this accumulation at noon, when energy is practically wasted, it means an important element for balancing the energy mix," Ilie Bolojan said on Wednesday evening in a press conference held at Victoria Palace.
The Prime Minister also stated that, during this year, the Government must support the completion of two major projects in the field of natural gas.
"This is the Mintia power plant and tomorrow morning I will have a meeting with investors who are in an advanced state, and also the Iernut power plant. The two power plants balance the national energy system, ensure the necessary energy in the conditions in which we have closed coal-fired power plants in these years and also further enhance, starting from 2027, the additional gas resource that we will have from the Black Sea," Bolojan said.
In the same context, referring to the governmental policies in the field of gas, the Prime Minister also mentioned the rescue measures envisaged for the Liberty Galati Steel Plant.
"An important aspect, derived from the policies related to the gas component, is also the one regarding the salvage actions of the Galati plant, the Liberty plant, which we propose to declare an objective of strategic importance, so that we can start an international tender procedure for its takeover and ensure the safety of the plant in the coming months and payments for the people who are there in the form of aid, so that we do not lose our employees and create an important problem in the Galati area. I thank all the colleagues who worked on this project and, in consultation with the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Energy, we will adopt these schemes next week", declared Ilie Bolojan.
