The protests in Northern Ireland have also generated risks to the safety of Romanian citizens, and the Foreign Ministry (MAE) is in direct contact with the authorities managing the situation, the Romanian chief diplomat Oana Toiu wrote on X on Friday.
She says that from the outbreak of the crisis to the present, the MAE, through diplomatic missions and consular offices, maintains contact with the Romanian community and with authorities, both local ones and line ministries.
''Ensuring a climate of security in the area has been the priority conveyed by Romania's diplomatic mission, including in the context where lists of addresses where foreign citizens reside have circulated online, including from areas with Romanian communities. Some families are returning home. So far, travel documents have been issued, especially for minors without passports,'' Toiu said.
The Romanian General Consulate in Edinburgh continues to take steps to identify and support affected Romanian citizens. At this time, there are 41 citizens who are beneficiaries of consular assistance.
The MAE's recommendation to Romanian citizens in Northern Ireland remains: to follow the instructions of the local police and to avoid traveling to areas where demonstrations are taking place.
