Energy Minister Bogdan Ivan said on Monday that people with incomes below 2,500 lei [500 euros] per month could benefit from discounts on natural gas and electricity bills.

"From the point of view of vulnerable consumers, in the energy and natural gas segment, the proposal from the Social Democratic Party is very clear, namely for the 2026 budget, for those consumers who earn under 2,500 lei, in the case of natural gas to benefit from a 100 lei monthly discount in the cold season, which begins on October 1 and ends on March 31. In this case, we are talking about the winter of 2026 to 2027. In the case of electricity, we propose to continue the support scheme for consumers who also have up to 2,500 lei net income, of 50 lei minus on the bill in the period between March 31, 2026 and March 31, 2027", Iva said at the Palace of Parliament.

He added that, in total, there are approximately 2.1 million electricity consumption points, or approximately 3.7 million people who will benefit from these bonuses. In the case of natural gas, the measure targets approximately one million consumption points, or 1.7 million beneficiaries.

"It is a measure proposed by the PSD that comes to support Romanians with the lowest incomes, who were affected last year by the elimination of the electricity cap, and because we care about people, we care about those with low and medium incomes, we come up with this support scheme for people with low and medium incomes when we talk about paying electricity and natural gas bills," the minister said.
