As regards Romania's stance towards the European Union, not only will matter what President Klaus Iohannis will do in the relationship with the EU officials, but also how will all of the Romanian decision -makers will act, considering that "difficult times are looming at European level", says the Chamber of Deputies' Speaker, Social Democratic Party (PSD, ruling) leader, Liviu Dragnea. "Romania's President has no need of a mandate from the Parliament to support the stance of Romania in front of the European Union. Yet this doesn't mean to rule out a debate capable to unify the political class around the national interest," Liviu Dragnea wrote on Monday on his Facebook page.

The PSD leader adds that "difficult times at EU level are looming, that claim unity of all Romanians." "It is not only about what the President does in relation with the European officials. It counts how all of the Romanian decision-makers will react: government, political parties, Romanian MPs and all the others who could support in a way or another, Romania's interest at EU level. Let us analyse together each scenario on the future of the European Union and establish clearly how we will react in each case. Let us learn from those who have achieved the Great Union, the centennial of which we are to celebrate next year. Let's leave aside the harmful logic of the domestic political conflicts, let's be united and let's get ready to defend our national interest, because nobody else will do it in our place," adds Dragnea.
