PSD announced on Thursday that it did not ask the PNL to come up with another proposal for the position of prime minister instead of Ilie Bolojan, nor did it request the USR leadership to withdraw ministers from the Government. The party emphasizes, however, that it is the "sovereign and democratic right" of its leadership to analyze, in internal forums, "if and under what conditions" it will continue to support the current governing coalition.

"PSD did not ask those from PNL to come up with another proposal to replace Prime Minister Bolojan, nor did it ask the USR leadership to withdraw its ministers from the government. However, the two parties must remember that the current government was invested with the vote of PSD parliamentarians. Therefore, it is the sovereign and democratic right of the PSD leadership to analyze in the party's internal forums whether and under what conditions it will continue to support the current governing coalition. PSD publicly announced, several months ago, that it had started this internal consultation process and that the final decision would also depend on the budget proposal for 2026," a statement published on PSD's Facebook page states, agerpres reports.

The Social Democrats recall that the internal discussions were generated by "the numerous violations of the coalition's political agreement" committed by some governing partners, who allegedly imposed decisions on the Executive without consultation and without consensus.

"The PSD behaved correctly when, despite major doctrinal differences with the other parties in the coalition, it supported by vote a governing formula that would provide Romania with stable political leadership. However, the PSD's support cannot be granted under any conditions and regardless of how many times the political agreement is violated by the other parties. The PSD has asked and continues to ask its partners to respect the interests of the PSD voters who have a large share in the electoral structure of the current coalition. As such, it is legitimate for the PSD to react when the Bologna Government's measures strongly affect citizens with low and medium incomes. And after the period of severe austerity, it is absolutely necessary that funds be allocated in the country's future budget to support these vulnerable categories," the social democrats also say.
