The Social Democrats will not form a coalition with the Alliance of Romanians' Union (AUR) as long as there is an anti-European discourse from this party, Social Democratic Party (PSD) interim Chairman Sorin Grindeanu said on Wednesday.
"We are part of a coalition and we are a serious party, one that doesn't change these things. And we have signed a political agreement, which, for as long as I lead the PSD, I do not intend to renege on. And I will not do so. And the PSD, beyond Sorin Grindeanu, is a serious party that sticks to the political agreements it has signed," Grindeanu underscored on Digi 24, when asked whether PSD MPs would vote for a motion of no confidence put forward by the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR), agerpres reports.
According to him, a PSD-AUR coalition is not possible due to AUR's anti-European discourse.
"I do not see a coalition with AUR ever happening, as long as AUR maintains an anti-European Union stance, as long as they come forward and say they have risen in the polls or built their profile as a party that claims we would be better off outside the European Union. PSD cannot be a partner with such a party," the PSD leader explained.
When asked whether he would consider an alliance if AUR were to change its discourse, he responded: "Let them change it, let them take action, and then we will be in a new reality. In the current reality, PSD cannot be a partner with political formations of this kind."
