Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies and Social Democratic Party (PSD) leader Sorin Grindeanu said that political involvement in changing the Justice Laws is harmful, adding that professionals should be the ones to discuss such matters.
"I believe this is a matter for professionals to discuss. In fact - and I am certain - political involvement in this area of justice currently does nothing but harm. Let me give you an example: how is the current USR [Save Romania Union] leadership, with court cases pending, any better in wanting to change the Justice Laws than Liviu Dragnea, who attempted the same thing? How? That is why I say that those who should speak and decide here are people within the justice system," Grindeanu told Parliament.
Asked about Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan's statement that the Justice Laws should be amended to ensure serious corruption offences are not subject to the statute of limitations, Grindeanu replied: "That is his opinion. Let us wait and see. We said we would attend the working group organised by the Government. I am not sure whether the Government is the best place for this, but we will go there and participate actively. However, it should be specialists - not necessarily the political sphere - making decisions on these matters. I do not agree with political involvement in these issues."
Regarding the simple motion against Internal Affairs Minister Predoiu, the PSD leader said he "sees no reason" to support it: "At this moment, I see no reason to vote for something like that."
