Interim Social Democratic Party (PSD) President Sorin Grindeanu said on Monday that he has requested calculations from the Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Finance regarding the impact on the budget of freezing the minimum wage and the potential consequences of an infringement.
Grindeanu was asked whether, as the Prime Minister stated, the coalition parties had reached an agreement to freeze the minimum wage as of 1 January.
"We had a discussion in the coalition two weeks ago and, in principle, everyone agreed. Meanwhile, including this morning, I spoke with Prime Minister Bolojan, a few changes were made. Commissioner Roxana Manzatu informed us that we could enter an infringement zone if this increase is not made. I know that in two days there will be the Tripartite Council, on Wednesday if I am not mistaken. I requested - and the Prime Minister agreed, I told him this morning - that calculations be provided by the Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Finance regarding the impact on the budget, if there is any, and the effect of not raising the minimum wage, as well as the consequences of an infringement. These matters will be presented by the Prime Minister," the interim PSD president said at the Palace of Parliament, according to Agerpres.
